Scandinavian tilt & turn design and performance

Characterized by a sleek Scandinavian aesthetic, these versatile windows tilt inward for secure ventilation and swing fully open for simple, safe cleaning from inside the room. This makes them a highly practical solution for modern apartments, flats, and multi-storey residences.

The range is fully certified to Part Q building regulations and holds Secured by Design accreditation for robust home security. Offering superior airtightness and remarkable insulation, these windows achieve Uw values down to 0.8 W/m²K, making them an excellent choice for eco-conscious new builds and Passivhaus (EnerPHit) retrofits.

Premium Timber Selections

Every window in our collection is expertly crafted from certified, sustainably sourced engineered laminated timber. We provide the choice between premium redwood (Scots Pine) and durable hardwood (Dark Red Meranti), both backed by our identical, comprehensive warranties. While both offer exceptional performance, our hardwood features a more open grain pattern, delivering a beautifully textured aesthetic that is especially striking when finished with a timber stain.

Elevate your home with Coluxor tilt & turn windows

By opening inward rather than outward, our timber tilt and turn windows combine a striking architectural look with practical design flexibility, leaving the exterior completely clear for the seamless addition of outdoor shutters and shading systems.

Tilt & turn unique features

Our tilt and turn windows feature a concealed hinge system, hidden trickle vents, and a unique external timber drainage design. By eliminating the need for unsightly aluminum or plastic bottom beads that disrupt the clean lines of the frame, this bespoke detailing ensures that the exterior of the window is crafted entirely from timber.

Security

Feeling safe and secure in your home is essential. That is why our timber tilt and turn casement windows are Secured by Design accredited, alongside being third-party tested and certified to Part Q building regulations. Engineered for maximum protection, they utilize high-security multipoint espagnolette locking systems and are internally glazed as standard, which prevents the glass panes from being removed from the outside.

Totally bespoke wooden windows

Coluxor tilt and turn windows are fully made-to-order, allowing you to tailor both the dimensions and design to your exact project requirements. Our opening configurations can be built to generous expanses of up to 1.5 meters wide by 2.4 meters high. To complement these, we also offer matching fixed architectural glazing in sizes reaching up to 2.5 meters wide by 2.4 meters high.

Mock sash styling for compliance

Tilt and turn windows are frequently specified to replicate the classic look of traditional sash windows. This is particularly useful when emergency escape access is required to satisfy building regulations, as standard sliding sash designs cannot always achieve the necessary clear opening sizes. To ensure a seamless architectural match, you can customize these windows with either contemporary or traditional timber mouldings and glazing bars.

Glazing

Glazing is a vital consideration for any project, and our timber tilt and turn windows are available with high-performance double or triple glazing. To achieve your desired aesthetic, you can incorporate 16mm, 25mm, or 35mm applied glazing bars to create beautiful traditional or contemporary patterns.

For homes in busier environments, we offer acoustic double glazing with impressive sound reduction ratings ranging from 33dB to 42dB. If privacy is a priority, we provide a variety of obscure glass patterns with varying levels of obscurity, rated from 1 to 5. You can also make a design feature out of your glazing using our unique translucent colored or opaque painted glass options.

To manage the effects of natural sunlight on large expanses of glass, solar control glazing can be seamlessly integrated into your tilt and turn windows. Available in ultra-clear, blue, green, and bronze tinted finishes, this specialized glass helps prevent indoor overheating. This makes it an ideal addition for low-energy eco-homes, especially when combined with our exceptional center-pane U-values that start from just 0.5W/m²K.

Tilt and Turn FAQs

How do tilt and turn windows work?

Operating the window is simple and intuitive, controlled by a single handle:

  • Turn Mode: Rotating the handle 90 degrees allows the sash to swing fully inward like a door, providing maximum ventilation and easy cleaning access.

  • Tilt Mode: Rotating the handle further to 180 degrees allows the top of the window to tilt inward, offering secure, weather-resistant ventilation.

Are Coluxor tilt and turn windows secure?

Absolutely. The window sashes are engineered with a high-security multipoint locking system featuring mushroom cams that interlock tightly into heavy-duty keeps fixed along the frame. They are fully tested and certified to PAS24:2016 security standards, earning official UK police approval through the prestigious Secured by Design scheme.

Are Coluxor tilt and turn windows Passivhaus certified?

While our tilt and turn windows are not officially Passivhaus certified, they can be specified to meet the stringent criteria required for ultra-low energy buildings. By incorporating high-performance, krypton-filled triple glazing which features a center-of-glass U-value from 0.5 W/m²K, we can optimize the entire unit to achieve an exceptional overall Uw-value as low as 0.8 W/m²K. This outstanding thermal performance makes them an ideal choice for sustainable new builds and EnerPHit eco-retrofits.

What is the inward clearance when the window is tilted?

When placed in the ventilation position, the window sash adjusts to fixed openings of either 80mm or 140mm. The internal gearing automatically holds the frame completely stable at these points, providing reliable, hands-free airflow without requiring any secondary restrictors or manual props.

Can the window swing completely open into the room?

Yes, when using the turn setting, the moving window frame swings inward to a full 90-degree angle. This creates a completely unobstructed opening that ensures a safe, compliant emergency exit route while making it incredibly straightforward to wash the outside glass from indoors.

How is temperature regulated with expansive glass panels?

To manage thermal comfort, Coluxor units feature advanced soft-coat, low-emissivity double or triple glazing. Filled with insulating argon or krypton gas, our standard glass configuration maintains a balanced G-value of 0.56. For south-facing elevations or properties highly exposed to sunlight, we can integrate specialized solar-control coatings that lower the G-value to 0.3, significantly filtering out infrared heat while maintaining excellent levels of natural daylight.

Where is the ironmongery positioned on the window?

As standard, the operating handle is located centrally along the vertical profile (the stile) of the opening leaf. To accommodate lifetime homes standards or specific design requirements, we can also configure the gearing to position the handle lower down the frame, ensuring comfortable reach and effortless accessibility.
